In Cameroon, many businesses hire a graphic designer for their visuals and then a community manager to run their pages. On paper, it makes sense. In practice, messages go back and forth, deadlines slip and the posts slowly stop looking like the brand.
I am a graphic designer and community manager based in Yaoundé. Since 2020, I have designed brand identities and managed social media for businesses in Cameroon and abroad. Here is what changes when one person handles both jobs, what the service includes, how the work runs and how to choose the right person.
Graphic designer or community manager: who does what?
The two jobs complement each other, but they call for different skills.
- The graphic designer creates your brand image: logo, colours, typefaces, posters, flyers, post visuals and carousels.
- The community manager brings that image to life online: setting the strategy, planning the content calendar, writing captions, posting at the right time, replying to comments and messages, and tracking results.
When the two roles are split, every post goes through several hands. The community manager orders a visual, waits, asks for a change, waits again. Meanwhile the news moves on and the promotion goes out too late.
Why hire a graphic designer who is also a community manager
A consistent image on every platform
Whoever designed your visual identity, or knows it in detail, applies it to every post: same colours, same fonts, same tone. Your followers recognise your brand before they even read your name, and that is what builds trust.
Visuals designed to be posted
A visual that looks great on a computer can be unreadable on a phone. In Cameroon, most of your audience sees you on a smartphone, often on a limited data bundle. When the designer also posts, they design in the right format from the start, with readable text, one message per visual and light files.
Faster turnaround
A promotion to launch tomorrow, an event to announce, a national day to celebrate: when the same person creates and posts, there is no back and forth between two providers. The idea, the visual and the caption move forward together.
One point of contact
You explain what you need once, to one person. You approve everything in one place, and you know who is responsible for the result.
What the social media service includes
At Mersil Designs, social media management covers the whole chain, from the idea to the published post:
- a content strategy and calendar built around your goals;
- post and carousel design;
- Reels and video editing;
- motion design for animated visuals;
- scheduling and publishing;
- community management: replying to comments and messages, and keeping your community engaged.
If your brand does not yet have a solid visual identity, that is often the place to start: a logo alone will not carry months of posts. I explain why in Logo vs Brand Identity: What Your Business Needs.
How we work together
- You tell me about your project. A short questionnaire helps me understand your business, your audience and your goals.
- Strategy and calendar. I propose a clear direction: which platforms to focus on, the themes, how often to post and the tone of voice.
- Design and approval. I create the visuals and captions, you review them and we refine them together.
- Publishing and engagement. I schedule the posts, follow the reactions and reply to your community.
Which social networks matter most in Cameroon?
You do not need to be everywhere. Two well-run pages beat five abandoned ones. As a rule:
- Facebook is still the network most used by Cameroonian businesses and their customers;
- WhatsApp is where the sale is closed, so every post should make people want to message you;
- Instagram suits very visual brands: fashion, beauty, food, events;
- TikTok reaches a young audience with short videos;
- LinkedIn is useful for businesses that sell to other businesses or institutions.

What affects the price
Every engagement is built to measure. The budget mainly depends on:
- the number of social networks to manage;
- how often you post;
- the type of content: static visuals, carousels, videos or motion design;
- whether there is an existing visual identity to follow;
- the time spent replying and engaging with your community;
- the languages: posting in French and English takes more work.
After the questionnaire, I study your needs and come back to you with a tailored proposal.
How to choose your graphic designer and community manager
- Look at real posts, not just logos: ask for examples of pages managed over time.
- Check consistency: do one client’s posts still look alike from one month to the next?
- Ask how the work is organised: calendar, approval times, who to contact.
- Keep ownership of your accounts. Instead of sharing passwords, add your provider as a collaborator in Meta Business Suite for Facebook and Instagram.
- Think bilingual if your customers speak French and English.
A few examples
Since March 2026, I have coordinated social media for Humanis Assurances, an insurance and reinsurance broker based in Douala: posts that explain insurance in simple terms, promote its products and celebrate national days. From 2022 to 2026, I also created the Facebook and Instagram posts for Ezone Cameroon, a consumer electronics brand.

I am based in Yaoundé, but I work remotely with businesses across Cameroon, in Douala and elsewhere, as well as in Gabon, Canada, the United States and the United Kingdom.
Can you post in French and English?
Yes. I work fluently in both languages and can prepare bilingual posts if your audience needs them.
Are the visuals included in social media management?
Yes. Post and carousel design, as well as video editing, are part of the service. That is the whole point of working with a graphic designer who is also a community manager.
