Afro Footprints

Afro Footprints is a cultural initiative built around African heritage, music and movement — “Bridging Africa, Heritage in Motion”.

I designed the logo and the deck that presents it: a tree whose trunk and roots are drawn as a fingerprint, beside a hand-lettered wordmark in earth brown and olive green. A footprint is the trace a people leave behind; the roots show where that trace comes from.

About the client

Afro Footprints sets out to highlight the traces Africans have left across the world and to act as a bridge between Africa and its diasporas. Its four values (heritage, evolution, connection and the celebration of diversity) were the real brief: the identity had to honour tradition and still feel at home in a modern, international setting.

What I designed

  • The logomark and the “Afro Footprints” logotype
  • Stacked and horizontal lockups, with colour versions in brown, green and black
  • The colour palette and the typeface
  • The presentation deck (December 2024) that explains the brand: who it is, its slogan, its values and the logo concept
  • Application mockups, including exterior signage

The design choices

The mark is a tree. Its foliage is green and alive, but its trunk and roots are drawn as the ridges of a fingerprint, the most personal trace a person can leave. Read one way it says roots; read the other it says identity. Earth brown carries the heritage side of the brand and olive green the growth side, while the rounded, hand-drawn letters of the wordmark (set in Cosplay Culture) keep it warm and festive rather than institutional.

The deck opens on an illustrated drummer over a terracotta gradient, which sets the tone for the cultural events the brand will sign, then lays the four values out as a colour wheel so a partner understands the brand in a few pages.

Where it works

The stacked version fits a profile picture or the corner of a poster, the horizontal one runs across a banner or a website header, and the one-colour versions survive single-colour printing or embroidery on a T-shirt. Afro Footprints already appears among the partners on the Social Network Workshop visuals I designed for Influence au Mboa.
