Mondo Mubany — MBEBWO EP
MBEBWO is an EP by Mondo Mubany, released on Mubany Records Inc.
I designed the cover art, the tracklist visual and the CD mockup. The wordmark is cut in warm clay tones and arced over the artist so the title frames him rather than sitting on top of him — built to stay legible once a streaming platform shrinks it to a thumbnail.
About the client
Mondo Mubany (Desmond Mbebwo) is an artist from the Grassfields region, from Bali Nyonga, and MBEBWO is his EP released on Mubany Records Inc. It holds six tracks, from “Fresh Air (Intro)” to “Mvie (Life)”, with features from Sango Edi and Phido, and the single “Sugar Ba” as a bonus track.
What I designed
- The front cover of the EP
- The back cover with the full tracklist and credits
- A CD and digipak mockup
The design choices
The title is also the artist’s own name, so I treated it as a monument: very large letters in warm clay and rust tones, arched over the artist like a sign over a door. He stands below it in a beige coat, holding headphones, on a light grey background with a faint pattern. The curve of the word frames him rather than sitting on top of him, and the cover stays readable once a streaming app reduces it to a thumbnail.
The back cover shows the artist seated on a red block, with the tracklist on the right: each title in the same rust colour, followed by its producer and its mixing engineer in small print, then the songwriting and guitar credits and the line “From the Grass Field Region, Bali Nyonga, Cameroon to the world”. It is the page fans read when they want to know who made each song, so it had to be clear as well as beautiful.
Where it works
The cover runs on streaming platforms, and the front, back and disc work together in the physical CD edition shown in the mockup. I also designed the artwork of the bonus single, Sugar Ba.
