Festival de l'Afrique à Beauharnois 2024
Since its debut in 2022, I’ve been honored to design all the visual elements for “Le Festival de l’Afrique à Beauharnois” in Quebec, Canada. This time, as in previous editions, I created everything from flyers and posters to billboards and the promo video, all designed to capture the festival’s lively atmosphere and celebrate African cultural diversity. The festival itself is a vibrant cultural celebration featuring music, art, dance, food, and fashion, serving as a community gathering that promotes unity and cross-cultural understanding. Contributing to its visual identity has been a truly rewarding experience.
About the client
The Festival de l’Afrique à Beauharnois is organised by IDÉES-AFRIQUE in Beauharnois, Quebec. Its third edition, under the slogan “Beauharnois s’enjaille !”, took place from 16 to 18 August 2024 at Parc Sauvé and the community centre, with concerts, dance, workshops, food, fashion, artisans and exhibitors.
What I designed
- The main poster, with a grid of the performing artists
- Artist visuals, such as Dicko Fils and the Benkadi group
- The official three-day programme
- A flyer and the large-format versions: billboard, bus shelter and bus-side advertising
- The festival T-shirt
- The promo video
The design choices
The festival’s name is set in a playful display type on stacked orange banners, framed by palm leaves, a drum and African masks, over a warm brown background with a geometric pattern. It reads at once as joyful and African, which is what the festival sells, and it stays legible from a distance on a billboard or the side of a bus.
The programme was the hardest piece: three days of activities, times and performers on one page. A strict table with a coloured column per day, the times aligned on the left and the artists on the right lets visitors find their slot quickly. The T-shirt drops the text almost entirely and keeps an illustrated dancer with “Beauharnois s’enjaille”, so it works as a souvenir as much as a uniform.
Where it works
The photos in the gallery show the campaign in Beauharnois itself: the poster in a bus shelter, the advertising on a city bus, and the T-shirt worn on stage by the host. I have designed every edition since the first in 2022, as well as the 2024 annual report of IDÉES-AFRIQUE.
